As we review the happy ending that netMESH created related to provisioning efficiency, device interoperability, organization and management, we will take a deeper dive into how Mike and team were able to leverage netMESH, and unlock the full promise of BLE Mesh technology.
Forever the IoT ideal has been thwarted by what could be viewed as a design flaw. The reliance on a central hub, for (inefficiently) receiving and dispatching information, is a single point of failure, resulting in network downtime and the related expense and disruption. Prior to the launch of the Mesh standard, and a product like netMESH to deliver the standard’s full value and fulfill the vision of IoT, users accepted downtime as a cost of doing business, with no solution in sight.
The central hub design flaw is also the root cause behind another dangerous, yet accepted current IoT condition, network security breaches. Central hub based open networks are inherently “hackable”, with 8 of 10 organizations using IoT reporting at least one data security breach.
BLE Mesh technology, made powerful via a product like netMESH, addresses these long standing IoT issues. The Mesh network retires (does not require) the central hub. Mesh, properly organized and managed, is a self-routing, self-healing, many to many, network of peers. The failure of one device will not lead to network downtime.
Data security is also solved as the Mesh network is closed. With no reliance on a cloud or central hub, a properly administered Mesh network cannot be hacked. With devices, and their data made safe, interoperable and available, data collection is now a competitive advantage, versus a business vulnerability.
The netMESH origin story was sparked by Mike’s need, and his team’s desire to improve customers’ businesses by utilizing a promising new standard for IoT. The netMESH design and validation was a direct result of including professional integrators (Mike and team) into the product development process.
